Favorite Northern Virginia Fall Festivals

Favorite Northern Virginia Fall Festivals MMK Realty Northern Virginia

Are you looking for some local favorite Northern Virginia Fall Festivals? Fall is a wonderful time to be in Northern Virginia because the weather is beautiful and the activities are abundant. In fact, there are so many great events happening around this time of year I find it hard to choose! Often, I like to find a variety of adult-friendly and kid-friendly events and then choose a couple of must dos! Below are a few of my local Northern Virginia favorites plus several others on this year’s fall hit list. Have fun out there!

Graves’ Mountain Apple Harvest Festival
Weekends in October
This is a really fun event that celebrates more than 40 years of Apple Harvesting. I really like the downhome vibe of this event and love the homemade food and crafts, fresh apple donuts, the live music, and all of the kid-friendly fun that really goes a long way in creating fun fall family memories for us in Virginia. And let us not forget about the apples and the views. This is a great option if you are looking a full day adventure in the country!

Cox Farms Fall Festival
Now through October 31
Another long running event, this huge 90 acre farm features tons of great Northern Virginia festivities. They have slides, rope swings, hay bale mazes, animals, food, cider and more. It is definitely a massive event with something for everyone. This is a great option if you want a big event that features a long list of things to do.

Fall Festival Ticonderoga Farm
Now through November 3
This family-friendly festival features hayrides, playgrounds, hillside slides, s’mores roasting, cornshucking demos, a petting farm, a bamboo maze, antique tractors and firetruck, a pumpkin patch, and a lot more. It is definitely more active on weekends and some of the activities are only open on the weekends, but even a weekday visit is worthwhile in my opinion.

Fall Festival in Old Town Historic Fairfax
If you cannot do a drive out to the country this year, this traditional fall festival is a great way to get your fall kicks locally! This event features great arts and crafts, children’s rides, music, pumpkins, and delicious food right in downtown historic Fairfax!

Rosslyn Cider Fest
I like this event option because it is on a Thursday night (hey almost Friday right), it makes me feel like fall has arrived, and teaches guests how to taste cider and distinguish between varieties, which is especially fun this time of year as apples are a very fall thing to do.  I think the pie eating contest will be quite hilarious and the local Americana band Justin Trawick and the Common Good will be performing. Finally, I like this event choice because they will have numerous local food trucks on site where I can try yummy foods that are not as easy for me to get to on a regular basis—like SwizzlerRocklands BBQ, and Mama’s Donut Bites! The event is from 4-8 p.m. at Gateway Park in Arlington.

Shucktoberfest Beer & Oyster Festival
I always enjoy Shirlington and this is a great opportunity for me to go! This event is free to attend and features over forty craft beer tents, numerous oyster tents, and lots local food and merchant vendors (tastings, food, and merchandise are not free). The event is also pet-friendly, which is fun this time of year. They also have a Kid Zone, face painters, balloon artists, a gaming zone and more. The event is held in Shirlington Village at Copperwood Tavern from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Virginia Wine Festival
If you are more in the mood for wine, Virginia Wine Festival is a great option and is the oldest wine festival on the East Coast. The festival features a ton of VA’s best wineries, craft exhibitors, seminars, and really great music. At the Virginia Wine Festival you can celebrate and taste from more than 150+ VA wines. Craft beer trucks will also be available, but beer is an additional cost (not included in your unlimited wine sipping admission ticket.) 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. One Loudoun, Ashburn, VA; www.virginiawinefest.com

Saturday, October 26
Pumpkin Palooza

This is a great event to round out the month and get you in the spirit of Halloween. This event is all things pumpkin! You can bring your pumpkin on wheels and try for 1st place in our Pumpkin Derby, compete in our all-ages-welcome pumpkin pie eating contest, try your hand at pumpkin bowling, pick pumpkins from the pumpkin patch and much more! Event is from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. in Herndon.
